China’s coal output down 0.5% in Q1, imports up 28.4%

In the January-March period this year, China’s raw coal output amounted to 830 million mt, down 0.5 percent on year-on-year basis, as announced by China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). In March alone, China’s raw coal output totaled 340 million mt, up 9.6 percent year on year, shifting from a year-on-year decline of 6.3 percent in the January-February period this year.

In addition, China imported 95.78 million mt of coal in the January-March period, up 28.4 percent year on year, 4.7 percentage points slower than the growth recorded in the first two months of the year.
