European commercial vehicle registrations down 23.2 percent in Q1

In March this year, new commercial vehicle registrations in the European Union (EU) fell by 47.3 percent year on year to 105,196 units due to the closure of dealerships as a result of measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).

In March, new commercial vehicle registrations declined in all major EU markets. The largest year-on-year decreases were recorded in Italy (-66.1%), Spain (-64.4%) and France (-63.1%). Also, in Germany new commercial vehicle registrations contracted by 25.4 percent in the given month.

In the first three months of this year, new commercial vehicle registrations in the EU totaled 413,327 units, down 23.2 percent on year-on-year basis. Germany (-14.4%), Italy (-26.6%), France (-26.9%) and Spain (-31.7%) all saw decreases.
