Brazilian integrated steelmaker Gerdau has named a family member to lead the company’s board of directors, the company said on Friday. Gerdau said Guilherme Chagas Gerdau Johannpeter was named president of the company’s board at an April 16 meeting.
Guilherme Chagas is the youngest member of Gerdau’s board. Gerdau had named a non-family member to lead the company as CEO effectively from January 1, 2018; Gustavo Werneck assumed the CEO role, replacing André Gerdau Johannpeter, also a company family member.
The CEO change at the time followed a company’s decision to evolve its corporate governance. Guilherme Chagas assumes the company’s board by replacing another family member, Claudio Gerdau Johannpeter. The latter will take on a board vice president role.
