Brazilian integrated steelmaker Gerdau said this week Sipar Gerdau Inversiones SA in Argentina and Gerdau Laisa SA in Uruguay are “gradually resuming” operations. The steelmaker didn’t provide an exact timeline for the two mills to resume full operations.
Argentina has adopted a strict lockdown, while Uruguay opted for a more relaxed quarantine. Peru also imposed a nation-wide lockdown.
Gerdau’s Sipar Gerdau Inversiones SA in Argentina has an annual installed capacity of 650,000 mt of crude steel and 263,000 mt of rolled products.
Gerdau said output at its Peruvian subsidiary, Siderperu, remain suspended, which includes steel shipments to clients.
