In April, Iran’s semi-finished products output increased by 2 percent year on year to 2.321 million mt, according to the Iranian Steel Producers Association. While the production of slabs in the given period rose by 12 percent year on year to 1.037 million mt, the output of billets and blooms totaled 1.284 million mt, down 4 percent year on year, SteelOrbis has learned.

Until quite recently, within the scope of plans for the current Persian year (ends on March 20, 2021), Iran was expected to increase its semi-finished output to 33 million mt versus 20.2 million mt produced last year. However, the implementation of restrictions on exports of long steel products by Iranian government has led to the concerns among local mills, that the steel output might gradually decrease this year.
