Oklahoma Steel & Wire severely damaged in tornado

A tornado that hit Oklahoma and north Texas on Wednesday severely damaged the Oklahoma Steel & Wire plant in Madill, according to local news reports.

While there were no reported injuries or deaths at the mill, a truck driver who was outside delivering material died. Damage to the facility included ripped-off roofs, and the main building of the plant was described as “nothing left but mangled steel.”

About 90 employees were able to retreat to a storm shelter when the tornado sirens went off, which made “all the difference,” one employee said, noting the shelters were put in place just a few years ago.
