Labor prosecutors and Vale have reached an agreement over Covid-19 protection measures at its Itabira complex, following the halt of activities due to the spread of the virus.

A labor court had first issued a ruling to halt activities at the Itabira complex, which Vale later reversed through an injunction, allowing it to resume operations. This week, labor prosecutors said Vale agreed to test workers physically working at the complex every 21 days. Afterward, within a five-day timeframe, Vale is expected to present prosecutors with a status report.

Workers at Vale’s Cauê mine, which is part of the Itabira complex, will be the first to be tested for Covid-19, labor prosecutors said. Vale also agreed to present in 15 days a plan to fight Covid-19.
