US iron and steel scrap exports down 15.6 percent in April

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,190,118 mt in April 2020, a 15.6 percent decrease month-on-month and a 19.4 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in April with 246,034 mt, down 44.7 percent month-on-month but up 22.3 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in April include: Mexico, with 202,758 mt; Korea, with 156,825 mt; Taiwan, with 149,204 mt; and Bangladesh, with 104,472 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $314.2 million in April 2020, a 19.0 percent decrease compared to March and a 30.8 percent decrease compared to April 2019.
