US steel exports up 3.6 percent in March

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in March 2020 increased 3.6 percent from February to total 602,488 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 12.7 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in March totaled $808.3 million, compared to $786.8 million in February and $848.0 million in March 2019.

Steel exports to Canada in March decreased 1.2 percent from the preceding month to 276,051 mt, and increased 17.0 percent from March 2019. Exports to Mexico increased 6.5 percent month-on-month to 265,865 mt, which is up 13.7 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in March include: Honduras, with 10,557 mt; Dominican Republic, with 4,139 mt; India, with 3,457 mt; Korea, with 3,004 mt; and United Arab Emirates, with 2,455 mt.

Major steel products exported in March include HDG, at 92,422 mt; cut-length plates, at 89,779 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 47,260 mt; plates in coils, at 37,870 mt; and beams, at 36,984 mt.
