Vale ordered to pay compensation for Brumadinho-related deaths

Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale was ordered to pay a multi-million Brazilian Reais compensation to a family following the Brumadinho disaster.

A court in Minas Gerais state ordered Vale to pay a combined BRL 5.65 million (nearly $1 million) compensation to a woman who was dragged into the mud, following the dam collapse. Her one-year old baby, her sister and her husband died in the disaster.

The compensation is one of several Vale has faced following the dam collapse in January 2019. Vale will also pay for material damages for the house the woman lost in the collapse.
